Uruguayan legend Diego Forlan has expressed regrets over not getting the chance to play in the Australian A-League before he retired.
Forlan spent most of his career in the La Liga and also had spells in England, Japan, India and Hong Kong but did not get an offer to play in Australia.
“I didn’t have the chance to go there [to play in Australia], I wanted to, but there was not any offer at that moment.” Forlan told Australian journalists, via SBS.
“I really like Australia, I’ve been there a couple of times. I was watching Australian football but I didn’t have the chance [to experience it].
“I know it would have been really good and nice – it’s a really nice lifestyle and also good football. Maybe as a coach – you never know!”
Forlan won the Pichichi trophy and European Golden Shoe twice in 2005 and 2009 and was also 2010 FIFA World Cup Golden Shoe winner.
