Toppmöller Surprised by 5–1 Rout of Galatasaray
By- Oma Akatugba
Eintracht Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmöller praised his team’s performance after a stunning 5–1 Champions League victory over Galatasaray, speaking to the media during the post-match press conference.
When asked by OmaSports whether his side was surprised to dominate a club that rarely loses in the Turkish Süper Lig, Toppmöller said:
“I already believed that we could win because I know my team’s quality and mentality, as well as the stadium. The 5–1 scoreline is a little surprising, especially given how clearly we won. But we knew we would get our moments, we knew where we wanted the balls in key areas to score 2–3 goals. We knew we would win some balls through good pressing, and that’s what we did.”
The Frankfurt coach highlighted that his team executed their game plan perfectly, maintaining focus and meeting all the performance standards he expected.
“Overall, we also met the standards and got a perfect result,” Toppmöller added.
The result sent shockwaves across Europe, as Galatasaray had been seen as a formidable opponent in both domestic and continental competitions. Frankfurt’s clinical display demonstrated their attacking efficiency, high pressing, and tactical discipline, with Toppmöller praising his squad for executing the plan “exactly as we prepared.”
This emphatic victory reinforces Frankfurt’s credentials in the Champions League and serves as a warning to other top clubs in the competition.
My question to @eintrachtfrankfurt manager, Dino Toppmöller
There were some signs of nervousness early on, but then you managed to completely turn the game around. Galatasaray are a top team . They almost never lose in their domestic league and yet you scored five goals against pic.twitter.com/08kvTFrbJc
