Following his Friday arrest on charges of sexual assault, Dani Alves has had his contract with Mexican club Pumas terminated.

A woman accused the full-back of sexually assaulting her on December 30 in a nightclub in Barcelona, and the full-back was detained as a result.

The 39-year-old was taken into prison and had an appearance in front of a judge the same day, however he has refuted the allegations. After that, he was told to remain in custody without bail.

Liga MX side Pumas have reacted by terminating the ex-Barcelona star’s contract, which was set to expire in July 2023.

The experienced Brazil international has left the club, club chairman Leopoldo Silva said in a brief message to the media on Friday night.

Dani Alves joined the Mexican team in July of last year and has since made 13 appearances, including the most recent one on January 8 in the Liga MX Clausura opener. The following week, Santos Laguna defeated them 3-0, but he was not on the team.
