Eintracht Frankfurt’s 3-0 win over FC Heidenheim on Saturday was more than just another Bundesliga victory — it was a clear statement of intent. The win keeps them third in the league, ahead of RB Leipzig, and firmly on course for UEFA Champions League qualification next season.

For Frankfurt, this campaign could mark a major milestone — qualifying for Europe’s elite competition through the league for the first time in recent history.

In an exclusive interview with Omasports.comTimmo Hardung, Sporting Director of Eintracht Frankfurt, reflected on the significance of the win and the team’s ambitions moving forward.

“It’s a big goal. This time, we’re qualifying for the Champions League through the league, and that would be major. We know how tough it is — but we’re going step by step,” he said. “Today was an important game, and those were three important points that bring us a little bit closer to that goal. But we know there’s still a way to go.”

Eintracht’s steady push for the top has come despite losing key forward Omar Marmoush to Manchester City earlier this season. Yet, the squad has rallied impressively in his absence.

“Of course, we do miss him. Omar has great qualities,” Hardung admitted. “But we have good depth and wealth in our team. We gathered together as a team and did our job. That’s football — once in a while you miss some players, but we moved on. We’ve shown we have the quality to collect a lot of points, even without him.”

The interview was granted courtesy of the Bundesliga, during the Bundesliga Media Visit for African Journalists, a program aimed at fostering direct engagement between African media and German football institutions.

As the final stretch of the season approaches, Frankfurt fans can start dreaming of Champions League nights once again. But as Hardung emphasized, it’s still one step at a time — and every point counts.
