Oliver Glasner has lamented his Eintracht Frankfurt side mistakes in it’s 2-0 home loss to Napoli in the first leg of their champions league round of 16 tie.AMP

Victor Osimhen and Giovanni Di Lorenzo scored either side of halftime to give the away side the win, while Randal Kolo Muani was sent off for the hosts to cap off a frustrating night for the Bundesliga side.

Frankfurt now faces an uphill battle to overcome a two-goal deficit in the return leg on March 15 in Naples.

Glasner was disappointed with the results but praised his opponents.

“A very disappointing but deserved defeat,” he said.

“We played very well for 25, 30 minutes, but we didn’t capitalize on some good situations. Then we made too many mistakes of our own making and a team of this quality will exploit that.

“We had chances later on, but Napoli had incredible confidence and deserved to win. We’re disappointed right now, but we won’t bury our heads in the sand.”

Napoli had a penalty saved by Kevin Trapp and the Frankfurt shot-stopper – who later picked the ball out of his goal twice – praised the fans support while maintaining his team’s ability to overturn the deficit in Naples.

“We put in a very decent performance against a very good team. When you play with a man down for 25 minutes against opponents like these, it’s going to be extremely tough. We needn’t be disappointed with the performance.

“The result isn’t ideal, but when you see the atmosphere out there and know what this team are capable of, then we’re capable of overturning this result. That’s encouraging, as is the fact we didn’t go down without a fight. The red card was a very harsh decision in my eyes.”

Eintracht Frankfurt’s focus will now shift to the Bundesliga this weekend, where they will play fellow Champions League team RB Leipzig.
