Nigeria’s Flying Eagles boost its hope of qualification to the next round by beating host Egypt 1-0 in their second game in Group A played at the Cairo International stadium on Wednesday, reports Omasports.
The Flying Eagles had lost their first group game 1-0 to Senegal, and they needed to win against the Young Pharaohs to have a better chance of progressing to the Quarterfinals.
Egypt, on the other hand, were equally desperate for a win after a disappointing goalless draw with Mozambique in the Championship opener.
After a cagey first half in which the hosts edged, the Young Eagles got the breakthrough when full-back Solomon Agbalaka leapt to meet Aminu’s corner and blasted in with a superb header.
The Egyptians attempted a late rally but were thwarted by NigerianAMP goalkeeper Chijioke Aniagboso.
