It would be recalled that several days ago, a devastating earthquake rocked Turkey and Syria, causing the collapse of thousands of buildings, with hundreds dead and hundreds more trapped under the ruins.
In the aftermath of the disaster, Turkish Super Lig campaigners Hatayspor initially reported Atsu had been rescued “with injuries”, but the club changed that position barely a day later.
The Nigeria Football Federation has commiserated with the family of the deceased and everyone associated with Ghanaian football.
The Technical Director of the NFF, Augustine Eguavoen, wrote on his official Twitter account:
“Thoughts and prayers to the family of Ghanaian International Christain Atsu and the entire Ghanaian Football Family, at this difficult time.
On behalf of the Nigerian Football Federation, accept our heartfelt condolences.
May his soul rest in perfect peace. ️”

Atsu joined Hatayspor in September 2022 after a season with Saudi Arabian team Al-Raed.
The 31-year-old previously had spells with Premier League sides Everton, Chelsea, and Newcastle.
