After a trying few months, Mohamed Salah said that Monday night’s Merseyside derby victory over EvertonAMP felt like the “old Liverpool” again.

In what turned out to be a comfortable victory for the Reds over their neighbors, Salah and January signing Cody Gakpo each scored a goal either side of halftime.

It was a much-needed break in the slump after four Premier League games without a victory.

However, Liverpool, who only has nine victories from 21 league games so far, are still in ninth place and will be hoping that this performance and result will spark their season.

“It’s big, huge for us. We couldn’t wait for this game to turn everything around, we hope it’s the start,” Salah told Sky Sports.

“We were a little bit lucky but luck comes when you work hard. We were excited for this game to change everything. Hopefully this is the start.

“[Jordan] Henderson and [James] Milner were speaking last week about enjoying our football as we’ve been together for six years and we have new players that are playing really good. It looked like old Liverpool but that started last week.”

Before the end of February, Liverpool will play two difficult away games in the Premier League against Newcastle and Crystal Palace, with a Champions League last-16 match against recently crowned world champions Real Madrid coming in between.

Recently, Jurgen Klopp’s team has struggled on the road, losing at Brighton in the FA Cup as well as on the road against Brentford, Brighton, and Wolves in the Premier League.
