Barcelona defeated Atletico Madrid 4-2 at the Camp Nou to move into the top-four in the Spanish La Liga on Sunday.
Atletico went ahead first though, with Yannick Carrasco finding the back of the net inside the opening eight minutes. But Barca responded excellently and were already 3-1 up before halftime, thanks to goals from Jordi Alba, Gavi and Ronald Araujo.
Dani Alves would stretch Barca’s lead shortly after the start of the second half but former Barca forward Luis Suarez pulled one back for Atletico in the 58th minute. Ten minutes later, Alves, who had a goal and assist to his name, went from hero to villain as he was shown a red for a foul.
Despite Atletico’s best efforts, Xavi’s men held on to take all three points. They are now in fourth place, but 12 points behind leaders Real Madrid on the league standings.
Meanwhile, Barca’s new signings Adama Traore, who joined from English side Wolves, and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, who joined from Arsenal, featured.
Traore, who was in the starting XI, assisted Gavi for the team’s second. He was subbed off in the 61st minute for Aubameyang, who had not been in action since December.
