Newcastle United have prioritised the signing of Man United’s attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard in January and are prepared to make the 28-year-old the club’s highest earner, The Times reports.
The club are ready to offer the Englishman a deal that will make him the highest earner in the club’s history.
He has been offered a 4½-year deal significantly in excess of the £100,000-a-week salary of the club’s present top earner, Miguel Almirón.
Lingard’s contract at Manchester United is due to expire next summer and talks have already taken place with the 28-year-old’s advisers.
