The head coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr has said he is still in charge of the national team, but admitted that the country’s football federation are looking to part ways with him.
“Not yet, but that’s what they want me to do,” Rohr said when asked if he’s been sacked, as reported by The PUNCH and authoritatively confirmed by Omasports.
The German admitted that the NFF wanted him to quit the team after the Super Eagles’ uninspiring display in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Cape Verde in their final Group C World Cup qualifier in Lagos.
Nigeria finished top of Group C to qualify for the World Cup playoffs next March. However, there were widespread calls for the sack of the coach after series of lacklustre performances by the Super Eagles.
Rohr was appointed in August 2016 and led the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
