Paris Saint-Germain have slammed Argentina’s decision to select Lionel Messi for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers, with Sporting Director Leonardo branding the decision as “not logical”.
Messi has been asked to link up with his country ahead of meetings with Brazil and Uruguay despite the star forward being sidelined with injury.
Leonardo wants FIFA to step in and protect clubs from having to release players who aren’t in good physical condition.
Speaking with Le Parisien he said: “We do not agree to let a player go by selection who, for us, is not in physical condition or who is in the rehabilitation phase.
“It is not logical, and these types of situations deserve a real agreement with FIFA.”
Messi has missed nine matches this season due to lack of fitness and knocks.
