The much anticipated maiden edition of the Benin City Youth League kicks off on the 4th of August with the first set of games to come up at the S and T barrack pitch in Isihor,North West of Benin City.
the competition which will last for about 2 months will see the top youth football clubs in Benin battle for supremacy in one-off matches against each other.
Sponsors have continued to emerge to sponsor the initiative of the League Management Committe (LMC) of the Benin City Youth League,which is made up of the proprietors of the participating academies.
Lion-Izo Foundation, top a non-governmental organization in Nigeria has declared it’s support for the league by donating many crates of bottled water to hydrate the players and officials when the competition commences.
As well,Lion-Izo Foundation has given out a number of balls to the LMC of the Benin City Youth League as their token support.
The founder of the foundation is Amb. Eghe Igiozee.
A spokesman of the Foundation told Omasports.com that “the Lion-Izo Foundation takes very serious,and sees as highly commendable, any imitative that healthily occupies the youths,” and that the Foundation is fascinated by the prospects of seeing the top grassroots clubs in Benin City battle for prestige in a spirit of competitiveness and fair play.
“We wish to associate with the Benin City Youth League because we believe that young talented players can benefit from this competition to become top stars and become positive influences to society. This aligns with the goal of the Lion-Izo Foundation,which is to foster a better Nigerian society,” The spokesperson said.
The jLion-Izo Foundation had earlier this year organized a highly entertaining football tournament this year in Benin City, the success of which helped trigger an enthusiasm in the top youth sides in Benin City to organize the Benin City Youth League to serve as an added avenue for their young players to be engaged in their football competitively.
