Former Rangers defender Richard Foster has called on football regulatory bodies to slap a punishment of a life ban from football for anyone proven guilty of racism in the sport.

Foster said this after Slavia Prague’s Ondrej Kudela who was given 10 match ban for racially abusing Rangers Glen Kamara filed for an appeal. Foster believes the ban was lenient and he should have gotten a lift ban instead.

“I’m surprised he is appealing his suspension,” Foster told BBC Sportsound, quoted by HITC. “Personally, I think the 10-game ban is very, very lenient and I think he should be thrown out of football completely.

“That’s the only way to deal with it. We can’t control what happens in society but we can control what happens in football.

“And if you throw him out of football he can’t participate in any other games and be racist to any other opponents.

“I hope his appeal fails and he gets an even harsher punishment for having the audacity to appeal. For him to appeal it, is very disrespectful to Glen Kamara. If you watch the footage you can see Bongani Zungu hears it as well, so that gives you corroboration.

“So for him to appeal that to me is madness. But I hope he loses it. Maybe he’s doing it to clear him to play in certain games or because he thinks he can win it. I don’t know.

“It’s hugely disrespectful to Kamara first and foremost but it’s all disrespectful to all players of colour.

“When people walk up to someone and cover their mouth before whispering something in a player’s ear then there’s no room for that in football.”

Glen Kamara was also punished with a three game ban for physically assaulting Kudela in the tunnel after the match.

Serbian club Red Star Belgrade was given stadium ban and fined after the team’s supporter racially abused AC Milan and Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
