LMC chairman
Earlier this week Super Eagles captain rejoined his former club Kano Pillars in the Nigerian Professional Football League until the end of the current season.
Musa, who scored 18 league goals in the 2009/10 season, a then record was without a club since leaving Al Nassr last year September and had a deal with West Brom fall through in January.
The NPFL LMC chairman Shehu Dikko has now revealed the happenings behind the scenes of the deal. He said signing of such players can be done under the Elite Players Programme, by the club or by the league management board who would then assign the player to a club.
For Musa’s case, he was signed by the LMC who then assigned him to the club of his choice. Few clubs wanted him but he opted to sign for his former club Kano Pillars.
“We spoke to him about coming back home to play, and as someone who is always ready to give back, he did not hesitate,” Dikko told ESPN.
“Once the agreement was signed, the choice of which club to play for was up to him. A number of clubs wanted him. We put everything in front of him and he made the decision to go to Kano Pillars.”
He also revealed the 28 year old will receive no monetary compensation for his services as he counts it as a means of giving back.
“We didn’t speak much about it. Musa is someone who is more concerned about giving back to the club that made him and he is not coming here to do this for money. He is not getting paid for playing for Pillars. That is the kind of person he is.” he added.
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Dele Aiyenugba also returned to the NPFL at the beginning of the season with Kwara United and is helping the club mount a title challenge.
Dikko hopes to see many other Nigerian footballers return home to play in the league to help improve the league.
