Comoros and Gambia senior national team made history by qualifying for the countries’ first ever African Cup of Nations.

The Les Coelacantes were tied at the top of Group G with Egypt with eight points and needed just a draw from one of their final twe group games at home to Togo or away to Egypt.

They got their qualifying point against Togo after a goalless home draw and regardless of what happens in their final game in Egypt, Comoros are going to Cameroon for their first ever AFCON appearance.

“We’re aware that it’s starting to look good, but we’re staying calm and focused because we still have to make sure we get the additional point we need,” Comoros captain Nadjim Abdou told FIFA.com after their 2-1 win over Kenya in November that left them on the verge of qualification.

“At the same time, we shouldn’t deny how pleased we are either. We’ve taken a big step towards our goal so that’s something we should also relish.”

Gambia qualified after beating Angola 1-0 and are tied on 10 points with Angola. Their last group game comes against DR Congo and the West African country are heading to Cameroon.

Comoros is an island country on the Indian ocean with a population of less than one million people. It joined CAF in 2003 and became a FIFA member in 2005.
