Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong has revealed the high spirit within the Super Eagles camp ahead of the AFCON qualifier games against Benin and Lesotho.
Nigeria will play Benin Republic on Saturday before returning to Lagos to play Lesotho and speaking to the NFF media at the Eagles camp after the second training session in an interview made available to OmaSports, he talked about the spirit in camp.
“I think the training session has been good, all the boys are fired up. I see a lot of energy, we’re working really hard. Everybody is happy to be in Lagos to prepare, so we would be ready for Saturday.” he said.
Gernot Rohr invited 24 players for the games, 21 foreign based players and three new faces who are NPFL players. Ekong made it known everyone in camp is happy and getting along well.
“It’s always good to be in the camp, as you can see, all of us get along well and everyone is really happy to be here after a couple of months of no international football and we just want to get the job done.” the Watford defender said.
The Super Eagles will play in Lagos for the first time in 10 years and the Lagos State Sports Commission has been working on the grass at the Teslim Balogun stadium to put it in good condition for the match. Ekong applauded the work done and hopes the weather remains favourable.
“They did really well, I’ve seen some pictures from where I was before. They did well to get it ready for us. Let’s hope that the rain and the weather won’t be too bad in the next couple of days but of course we would focus on the game on Saturday first before we think about playing here.”
Nigeria beat Benin Republic 2-1 in the first leg in Uyo and would face a team whose home is a stronghold, Ekong said Nigerians should expect a tough game and at the same time expect to see a team ready to fight.
“It’s going to be a very difficult team,” he said. “When we played in Uyo, it was a hard game as well, so we have to respect the opposition.
“We’d go there to try and give everything to get the three points. Nigerians will see a team that is ready to fight and give everything to try and get the job done.”
