The AFCON U17 scheduled to be held in Morocco from March 13-31 has been cancelled following a CAF Emergency Committee meeting.
According to reports, Morocco pulled out of hosting the tournament and it is the second time in seven years the North African country would pull out of hosting a continental tournament having cancelled the hosting of the AFCON 2015 due to Ebola fears.
Uganda, Zambia, Tanzania and Côté d’Ivoire have all arrived and set up base awaiting the start of the tournament on Saturday.
FIFA cancelled the U17 World Cup due to coronavirus pandemic and the representation slot wouldn’t have mattered. CAF successfully hosted the AFCON U20 which was won by Ghana.
