Argentine football is in shock following the news that Santiago ‘Morro’ Garcia, a Uruguayan striker playing for Godoy Cruz, was found dead in his apartment.
The 30-year-old was adored in Argentina for his unique and exciting style of play and there was talk of him possibly moving on to a bigger club in the country.
Garcia had been undergoing psychiatric therapy, according to TyC Sports.
“Through the following message, I have to confirm the unfortunate news that was released today about Santiago ‘Morro’ Garcia. I ask you please treat the following news with the respect it deserves,” the Godoy Cruz Press Department stated.
“The entire club feels completely distressed and we insist and beg that this moment be respected, for the sake of his family and friends.”
Garcia was born on September 14, 1990 in Montevideo, Uruguay. He rose through the ranks of Nacional and ended up becoming an icon in Argentina with Godoy Cruz.
He represented his country in the 2009 U20 World Cup in Egypt, in which he played three games and scored one goal.
