Atletico Madrid were dealt a blow on Monday as Kieran Trippier’s 10-week ban has been upheld by FIFA.
The English right-back will now be out of action for Los Colchoneros for two and a half months, and he will miss a number of LaLiga Santander games, as well as the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie against Chelsea.
Trippier had initially been banned in December for messages sent to friends who bet on him joining Atletico from Tottenham Hotspur ahead of his move’s confirmation.
Having had the ban put on hold, he was able to return to the team against Sevilla, in which he assisted the opener in a 2-0 win and put in an impressive performance.
