Dundee footballer and dad-of-one Ryan Blair, a player at junior level from Dundee, passed away on New Year’s Eve, reportedly suicide, according to Scottish Sun.

The shock news has prompted an outpouring of grief and tributes from friends, team-mates and clubs in the area.

A statement from his club Downfield Juniors said: “All at Downfield JFC are devastated to hear the sad news of defender Ryan Blair passing away. Although not long with the club Ryan became a treasured teammate and friend of all at the club. Our thoughts are with Ryan’s family.”

And Lochee United, who he used to play for, added; “Everyone at Lochee United are devastated to hear of the sudden passing of former player Ryan Blair.

“Ryan was a well respected teammate and friend to everyone associated with the club. Our thoughts are with his family at this extremely sad time. RIP Ryan…Thanks for the memories.”

Former team-mate Jamie Winter tweeted a picture of him celebrating a goal with Ryan and said: “You will never see the tears you’ve left behind.”

Some well-known faces from the Scottish game also reacted to the sad news and offered their condolonces.

Ex-Rangers star Bob Malcolm said: “Sorry to hear that Jamie thought are with yous.”

And ex-Aberdeen midfielder Gary Dempsey wrote: “Another one. so so so sad. Lads if you’re having a tough time please please tell somebody. This isn’t the answer.

“There’s always a way out even tho you might not see it now. There is. But you have to speak up. RIP Ryan.”

Mental health charity Back Onside also made a statement, adding: “Sadly last night another community faced the devastating news that they had lost a son, brother, dad, friend, team-mate.
