The Premier League has dismissed reports that it held a meeting with clubs over taking a break in an attempt to contain the fast spreading mutant strain of coronavirus in the UK.

“The Premier League confirms it has not discussed pausing the season and has no plans to do so,” the league board said in a statement.

“The League continues to have confidence in its COVID-19 protocols to enable fixtures to be played as scheduled, and these protocols continue to have the full backing of Government.

“With the health of players and staff the priority, the League is also fully supportive of how clubs are implementing the protocols and rules.”

This comes after West Brom boss Sam Allardyce suggested the circuit breaker will be much needed. A suggestion Ole Gunnar Solskjær disagrees with on the basis of an already congested schedule.
