Gladbach striker Marcus Thuram has been handed a fine of €40,000 and a six game ban for spitting on Hoffenheim’s Stefan Posch.

“The sports court of the German Football Association (DFB) has suspended Marcus Thuram from Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach in single judge proceedings after the DFB control committee has been charged with assaulting the opponent after a previous offense against him occupied by six competitive games by the licensed team and a 40,000 euro fine.” the DFB said in a statement.

The French international was red-carded for the incident and has apologised. Gladbach fined him a month’s wages which would be donated to charity equivalent to about €150,000 to make a total fine of €190,000.

He would immediately serve a five game ban in the league and cup while the sixth game would be suspended until December 21, 2021.

He would miss the DFB Pokal round 2 match against SV Elversberg tomorrow, Wednesday, December 22 and four league games against Arminia Bielefeld, Bayern Munich, VfB Stuttgart and Werder Bremen in January.
