The Bundesliga is regarded as one of the best leagues in Europe and as a matter of fact, the best in terms of Stadium attendance and organisation. Mascarell agrees and even thinks it is getting better year in year out.

“I think the Bundesliga is a strong league, 100%. I think every year it’s getting better and better with a lot of quality. What the Bundesliga has is it trusts in young players.”

As a young player growing up and playing in Spain, Mascarell watched a lot of Ronaldinho and he became his idol but for a reason other than just his football skills

“Ronaldinho was my idol –how he played, how he enjoyed the games, always with a smile, every day a good mood. For me it was Ronaldinho. But then when I grew up a little bit, I started to play in the number 6, you start to see players like this. Xabi Alonso was big for me–I was in Madrid, I trained with him many times, and for me, it was perfect to learn from him.”

Mascarell´s Schalke 04 takes on Borussia Dortmund twice every season in a game known Revierderby (also known as the Ruhr Derby)
The two teams clash again on the 26th of October 2019 for this seasons edition of the derby. Mascarell is certainly looking forward to it. He says.

“Amazing. It’s an amazing game –one of the biggest games in the world. We have to be ready, it will be difficult for sure, but we have to be ready and confident. I think we can fight until the end, and for sure with our fans, it will be easier to get the three points.”

But why Mascarell and his colleagues look forward to the derby, they have the business of Hoffenheim to deal with this weekend away from home.
