A fan favourite at Lille, Nicolas Pepe left the Stade Pierre Mauroy for the Emirates to become Arsenal’s record transfer. He scored 32 goals in 69 appearances for Lille within two years.
Soon after Pepe’s transfer, Nigerian attacker Victor Osimhen joined Lille Metropole as Pepe’s replacement and has lighted up Ligue 1 with goals.
Despite his super start to life in France, the 21-year-old Osimhen believes he is not a replacement for Pepe saying that there are no bases for comparison. He told omasports after netting his 6th goal of the season for his french club Lille Metropole against Strassburg.
He said; ”For me, I don’t think I’m Pepe’s replacement. I’m Victor Osimhen, I want to do my job for Lille. He did wonderfully well for Lille last season but I’m myself and not Pepe. We are two different players, I just want to continue to help the

Osimhen also talked about his journey so far, one which has seen him play in Germany (VFL Wolfsburg) Belgium (RSC Charleroi) and now Lille, where he has got off to a flying start.
“I think it has been rosy for me since I moved to France. After the under 17 world cup I thought everything was going to be fine but in Wolfsburg.
I learned a lot regardless of the fact that I played less . That was what prepared me for the future which I am living now and I had to go to Belgium to resurrect my career and that helped me as well and that is why I am here and I want to continue working hard to get to where I want to be. “
