Thiery Henry begins his managerial career at AS Monaco, the same place where his football career started. The club announced the former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder as its new manager a week ago and was presented to the media on Wednesday.

The former French international, who was a part of the coaching staff with Belgium at the 2018 FIFA World cup in Russia believes its an excellent opportunity for him to start his managerial career where it all began even though the club is languishing in the relegation zone after an abysmal start to the French season as he says “Accepting the offer was logical”. While speaking during his unveiling, The 41-year-old said; “For me when the offer came it was logical,” he said. “This is where I started. This club will always have a big place in my heart, so to be able to come here and start again is a dream come true.”

He Henry will now have to get AS Monaco out from the 18th position where his predecessor, Leonardo Jardim left it, and he may be well equipped with the technical dept to make things happen if his time at Arsenal and Barcelona where he worked with Arsene Wenger and Pep Guardiola respectively are anything to go by.

The excited world cup winner with France talked about the influence of the two managers on his career as a player and how they will be of enormous inspiration to him now as a manager. “Arsène unlocked so many things in my mind – what it meant to be a professional, on how to perform. You learn from people, but also need to put your mix into it. Pep for me is the reference. I re-learnt how to play the game when I went to Barcelona under him. With Pep, you can talk about the game, and he will not go to sleep. You will fall asleep, and he’s still talking. He is way ahead of the game.”

Thierry Henry who signed a three-year contract will begin his tenure as manager away at Strassbourg this weekend Monaco visit Strasbourg for a League fixture.
