Trent Alexander-Arnold converted the winning spot kick in a penalty shootout to send England into the semi-finals of Euro 2024 after Manuel Akanji missed for Switzerland, and Harry Kane expressed optimism for the tournament.

He told Omasports after the match: “We are in the semi final so we are doing pretty good, I thought today was probably our best performance out of the competition so far we are playing against really good teams.

“Switzerland caused us problems at times but we cause them problems, I think it is credit to the boys the way we bounced back up after going one nil down and great resilience throughout the whole tournament and when you look at the champions over the years in these big tournament that is what they have to show first and foremost is resilience and that’s what we have in abundance.

“So we’ve got real togetherness and a real belief that we can do something special and it’ll be no different on Wednesday.”

England take on the Netherlands in the semifinals on Wednesday.
