Nigeria beat Angola to reach Afcon semifinals

Nigeria edged Angola 1-0 to reach the semifinals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast on Friday.

Ademola Lookman, who scored twice against Cameroon in the last 16, converted a cut-back from Moses Simon just before half time to fire the Super Eagles in front.

It’s Angola’s first defeat in 10 matches. Their 3-2 win over Mauritania during the group stage was the only time they conceded more than one goal in a game during that run.

Meanwhile, this is the first time Nigeria have won won four consecutive matches at a single Afcon edition without conceding a goal.

Nigeria will now face the winner of Saturday’s quarter-final between Cape Verde and South Africa in the last four next Wednesday.
