Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has operation on shoulder

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has had an operation on the shoulder he injured while playing for Scotland, says Reds manager Jurgen Klopp.

He was hurt in a challenge with Spain keeper Unai Simon during this month’s Euro 2024 qualifying defeat and left the pitch cradling his arm in a shirt.

“He’s had his surgery and it all went well, as good as it could be,” Klopp told a news conference.

“We don’t know how long it will take but the first step is done.”

Robertson, who has played eight league games and scored one goal for Liverpool this season, was replaced by Greece left-back Kostas Tsimikas for last weekend’s Merseyside derby win against Everton.

Tsimikas, 27, has also started Europa League wins against LASK Linz and Union Saint-Gilloise as well as a EFL Cup third-round victory against Leicester City this season, and he was a late substitute in a league win against Bournemouth.

Klopp has previously said that defender Joe Gomez, who normally plays at centre-back or right-back, or 19-year-old Luke Chambers, could also play at left-back if needed.

Liverpool play French side Toulouse at Anfield in the Europa League on Thursday.
