Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has won the Uefa men’s player of the year award.

Haaland, who was nominated alongside fellow sky blue star Kevin De Bruyne, also beat off competition from Lionel Messi.

The award was revealed at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco this evening and caps a brilliant week for the forward, who was named PFA Players’ Player of the Year on Tuesday.

The Norway striker finished with 52 goals in 53 games as City won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.

“I feel good, what more can I say I won the treble at 22-years-old and I am living the dream,” Haaland said.

“It was my dream when young, so to do this with my team-mates it is something special and I am really happy it gives me so much more motivation.

“We have an incredible team here at Manchester City and this accolade wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my teammates, coaches and all of the staff at the Club.

“It was an incredible season for all of us and for me personally after securing the Treble. Lifting my first Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League was an incredible feeling and it’s a feeling we all want to share again this season.”

On if he is more scared of Guardiola or his father, he said: “Sometimes Pep, but again sometimes my Dad can be scary. I like it when Pep shouts at me because he tries to get something in my brain that I don’t have!

“He is just trying to make me a better footballer.”
