PSG sack head coach Christophe Galtier

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly sacked head coach Christophe Galtier, with Julian Nagelsmann set to be drafted in as his replacement, according to Le Parisien.

The club’s football advisor, Luis Campos, informed Galtier of the decision on Tuesday morning, with an official announcement expected to follow.

Galtier’s tenure at Parc des Princes lasted only one season, despite delivering the 2022-23 Ligue 1 title. However, criticism mounted after PSG’s exit from the Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munich in the round of 16.

Galtier became PSG’s seventh permanent manager since the Qatari takeover in 2011 when he was appointed on a two-year contract last summer.

While the Frenchman successfully guided the team to retain their Ligue 1 crown, finishing just one point ahead of second-placed Lens, he struggled to maximize the potential of star players Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe on the European stage.

Former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann is the frontrunner to take over from Galtier at the Parc des Princes. Foot Mercato reports that the German manager is in advanced talks with PSG officials.

Nagelsmann has been available since his departure from Bayern in March. Additionally, PSG is reportedly considering bringing in Arsenal legend Thierry Henry as Nagelsmann’s assistant.
