KAA Gent defender, Jordan Torunarigha has announced his decision to play for Nigeria, switching allegiance from Germany.

He represented Germany at the youth level and was part of the country’s U-23 team at the last Olympic Games in Tokyo.

In the past, the centre-back turned down overtures from former Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, saying he didn’t know much about Nigeria and it would be difficult to represent the country, as per Soccernet.ng. The 25-year-old has now changed his mind.

“After a lot of consideration and good talks with the coach and all people in charge, I decided to play for the country for which my father already stood on the pitch, Nigeria, Torunarigha wrote on Instagram.

He’s said he wants to be part of the Super Eagles at the 2026 World Cup.

His father, Ojokojo was also a former footballer and represented Nigeria as a forward in the past.

Torunarigha made 34 appearances for Gent in the Belgian Pro League last season, scoring goals and registering 3 assists.
