Potter is unconcerned about Chelsea’s goal-scoring woes

Chelsea head coach Graham Potter explained why he isn’t worried about the Blues’ goal scoring struggles.

After a disappointing five months in charge at Stamford Bridge, Potter has largely failed to get a tune out of his large and youthful squad.

Saturday’s 1-0 win over Leeds United was only their second in all competitions in 2023, with only seven goals scored since November 5.

Wesley Fofana scored the game-winning goal against Leeds and urged his Chelsea teammates to chip in with goals to relieve some of the pressure on their ineffective forwards.

Speaking to the media post-match, Potter spoke of the importance to return to winning ways, and later insisted that Chelsea have enough quality to get over this recent scoring slump.

“If you create chances the goals will come because the quality of the players is there,” Potter said.

“I’m delighted for the players and for the supporters because they are the most important in the football club.”

He added: “It’s really good for the players to win and to keep a clean sheet. It gives us confidence…as we prepare for a massive game on Tuesday.”

Chelsea will host Borussia Dortmund next, hoping to overcome a 1-0 deficit in their Champions League last 16 tie.
