Inter attacking midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu came up with some interesting comments in a recent interview as he claimed himself to be one of Europe’s best midfielders right now.
Speaking in an interview with an Italian news outlet, the Turkish International voiced his opinions about several matters regarding his teammates and his role.
The most noteworthy of his comments was when he claimed that he felt underestimated by fans and pundits alike and conceited by saying that he is currently one of the top five midfielders in Europe.
Calhanoglu said: “In my role, I see myself among the five best in Europe, I say this with humility but awareness.”
By introducing comparisons, the 29-year-old moved on to claim that he is nothing short of the likes of Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne and Real Madrid’s old guard Luka Modrić. He said:
“Yes, I feel like it. I’m not far from De Bruyne or Modric.
“Maybe in this period those who play in the Premier League have more visibility ”
The midfielder has 29 appearances this season for the Nerazzurri during which he has netted 2 goals and registered 5 assists.
In the current season, he has played more often in a deeper midfield role, which is something different to what he is usually used to. That is because of the constant absence of Marcelo Brozović.
