Salima Mukansanga of Rwanda is set to become the first woman ever to officiate as a centre referee at the Africa Cup of Nations, when the competition begins this Sunday in Cameroon.

Mukansanga, 34, has officiated at the Olympics, the African Women’s Cup of Nations, the CAF Women’s Champions League and the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

In Cameroon, over the coming weeks, the Rwandan will create a piece of history as she controls proceedings in the men’s tournament.

Since 2018, Mukansanga has officiated matches in the Rwandan top division as well as international games.

The Africa Cup of Nations is live in Cameroon from 9 January to 6 February.
