Manchester United legend Eric Cantona is the latest to join Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry in the Premier League Hall of Fame and he says he would have been surprised not to be elected.

“I am very happy and very proud, but at the same time I am not surprised,” Cantona told Premier League. “I would’ve been surprised not to be elected!

“I have been lucky to play in this team, with wonderful players, a wonderful manager and wonderful fans.”

Cantona played 156 Premier League games for Leeds United and Manchester United, scored 70 goals and assisted 56 goals. He won four Premier League titles. He shockingly retired in 1997 at the age of 30.

In 2019 after receiving the UEFA President Award, the King delivered one of football’s greatest speeches. “As flies to wanton boys we are for the gods, they kill us for their sport,” said Cantona.

“Soon the science will not only be able to slow down the ageing of the cells, soon the science will fix the cells to the state and so we will become eternal. Only accidents, crimes, wars, will still kill us but unfortunately, crimes, wars, will multiply. I love football. Thank you.”
