Romanian referee Sebastian Coltescu, the fourth official in charge of the UEFA Champions League group game between PSG and Istanbul Basaksehir on December 8, 2020 has been suspended by UEFA until the rest of the 2020/21 season.

UEFA suspended Coltescu for use of “inappropriate” comment towards a black coach, Pierre Webo. The match was abandoned in December after both teams led by Demba Ba walked off the pitch citing racism.

“In the international context, correct use of language is essential to avoid situations such as those that occurred in the above-mentioned match,” UEFA said.

The suspension applies to domestic Romanian matches and international matches and Coltescu must also undergo a UEFA approved education course before June 30, 2021.

The match was completed a day later with new set officials from the Netherlands and it was Coltescu’s last official outing.
