European champions Bayern Munich will face Mexican side Tigres in the Club World Cup in Qatar on Thursday after beating African champions Al Ahly on Monday.

Bayern hitman Lewandowski has said it would be a good opportunity to write football history by becoming the second club after Barcelona to win six trophies in a season. Bayern have won the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal, German Super Cup, UEFA Champions League and UEFA Super Cup.

“The Club World Cup title would be the icing on the cake. Only one team has won six titles in one season and we have the chance to become the second,” Lewandowski said at a press conference on Tuesday.

“It’s a chance to write footballing history and it’s also a big challenge and a big day for us. When you are so close to winning a trophy, you have to give everything to make it happen.”

The reigning FIFA player of the year scored both goals in the 2-0 win over Al Ahly but admits it wasn’t their best performance.

“We haven’t played our best football yet… We know that we can play a lot better than we did in the semi-final but the most important is that we win the trophy.” he said.

Bayern Munich currently sit in the first position on the Bundesliga table and hold a seven points advantage over second place RB Leipzig.
