Arsenal have confirmed that the FA have turned down their appeal of David Luiz’s red card against Wolves in their 2-1 loss at the Molineux.

David Luiz was shown a straight red with Arsenal leading by a goal and a penalty awarded against Arsenal after he was adjudged to have tripped Willian Jose in the box, denying a goalscoring opportunity.

The resultant penalty was scored by Ruben Neves before Joao Moutinho scored a 30yards screamer for the win. Goalkeeper Bernd Leno was also red carded for handling the ball outside the box.

“The Football Association have confirmed to us that the red card given to David Luiz on Tuesday against Wolverhampton Wanderers will stand,” the club confirmed in a statement.

“We have worked really hard to overturn David Luiz’s red card. We presented our case to the FA but are disappointed that our appeal has been unsuccessful.

“We accept the FA’s decision and continue our preparations for Saturday’s match against Aston Villa.”

Manager Mikel Arteta earlier at his press conference today was hopeful the appeal would be successful but would now be without the Brazilian for the trip to Villa Park.
