World’s oldest active professional footballer Kazuyoshi Miura, 53, has signed a new contract with Yokohama FC for the 2021 Japanese J1 league.

Kazu as he is simply referred will play in his seventeenth season with Yokohama FC having joined in 2005 from Vissel Kobe at the age of 38.

The 2021 J1 League season would also be his 36th as a professional footballer. He made his professional debut with Santos in Brazil in 1986 at the age of 19 and also played in Italy and Croatia.

He is a former Japanese international. He played for Samurai Blue between 1990 and 2000. He scored 55 international goals in 89 games and was the first recipient of Asian footballer of the year award.

Kazu and Iniesta.

He became the oldest professional footballer to score a goal at the age of 50 in 2017 and with his new contract with Yokohama FC, he would play until he is 54.
