The rumors of a potential “European Super League” stirred a lot of comments and opinions among fans, players, and coaching staffs around the world. Mostly, people condemned the idea of forming an elite and exclusive team tournament.

Rumor has it that Bayern Munich was one of the candidates for the Super League, as the Bavarian team is one of the best teams on the continent. But, in a recent interview with Daily Mail, Bayern’s CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge talked about the idea and announced that Bayern definitely won’t be a part of that kind of tournament.

Rummenigge acknowledged that the idea is financially lucrative, especially after the pandemic affected the finances of many top clubs in the world. “They naturally think where there can be growth in the future, and a Super League would bring economic growth and arouse interest,” Rummenigge said.

But Rummenigge also admits that Super League would ruin football as we know it, stating: “If the system changed, it could make it more difficult for many people to identify with football. It could cause serious damage to the national leagues, that is why I have my reservations. If I had to decide today for Bayern, I would decline.”
