After posting yet another impressive performance as the Super Eagles gazumped the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on Friday, Germany-born Nigeria Leon Balogun has spoken about his bond with Africa’s most populous nation, Nigeria.
Born in Germany to a German mother and a Nigerian father, Balogun has been representing the Super Eagles since 2014, when he debuted before the World Cup that year.

Although, he didn’t make the squad to Brazil as he got injured in the same game he made his debut, he has gone on to establish himself as a starter for the three-time African champions when fit.
Speaking to Oma Akatugba on his African International TV show about playing for Nigeria, the 27-year old explained: “I’m very proud of both Germany and Nigeria, but when I was a kid and I’d play those video games, I always preferred to play with Nigeria.

Asked how it feels playing for Nigeria, having grown up in Germany, he said: “It feels different. But that’s the point that connects me more to Nigeria, even though I’m German and Nigerian.

“That is why I always have this strong connection because they (Nigeria) accept my completely.”
The Mainz 05 defender forged a formidable partnership with William Ekong, as they kept a clean sheet in the spanking of Cameroon.
