“We did okay to keep them away” – Solskjaer says after Champions League defeat to Young Boys

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says his side did okay to limit Young Boys’ chances in their 2–1 Champions League defeat to the Swiss side on Tuesday night.

United went ahead first, but Young Boys equalised in the second half and stunned the Red Devils with a last-minute winner to take all three points.

“We kept them from creating too many chances,” Solskjaer said after the match. “The last goal they got was just a mistake, and the first goal was just a cross that went through Luke [Shaw]’s legs. It’s not a great way of conceding goals.”

United created chances in the first half, but couldn’t maintain the intensity in the second. Solskjaer claims that it was due to Aaron Wan Bissaka’s sending off in the first half.

“With ten men, it’s always difficult,” Solskjaer said when asked the reason for the drop in momentum. “They [Young Boys] are a fit and athletic side. They kept the ball well, but I thought we did okay to keep them away.

“This is a disappointing start but we have to go again.”

United will welcome Villarreal to Old Trafford for their next Champions League game in two weeks.
