Victor Osimhen has released a personal statement following a row at Napoli last week, saying he’s been shown “so much love and kindness and will not allow anyone to come between us.”
There appeared to be a friction and an attendant social media backlash after Napoli’s TikTok account posted a ludicrous video of Osimhen after the Nigerian forward missed a penalty and angrily reacted to being substituted during Napoli’s 0-0 draw with Bologna last weekend.
The video on TikTok which was deleted shortly after it was posted drew plenty of backlash and criticism from supporters. Napoli released a statement saying they never intended to hurt their star striker, whose agent had threatened legal action.
The 2023 Ballon d’Or nominee, who signed for Napoli in 2020 from Lille, has now put everything to bed, restating his commitment to the Serie A side.
“Coming to the City of Naples in 2020 was a wonderful decision for me. The People of Napoli have shown me so much love and kindness, and I will not allow anyone to come between us,” the 24-year-old wrote.
“The passion of the People of Naples fuels my fire to always play with my heart and soul, and the love for the badge is unwavering as I wear it with pride.
“The accusations against People of Naples are untrue. I have a lot of friends that are Napolitans and have become part of my family and everyday life. I appreciate Nigerians and everyone for leading their voices to support and reach out to me.
“I’m forever grateful. Let’s support unity, respect and understanding. FORZA NAPOLI SEMPRE.”
Osimhen helped Napoli end their 33-year wait for a league title last season as he was Serie A’s top scorer with 26 goals.
Despite the row, he played and scored in Napoli’s 4-1 league win over Udinese mid last week and was again on the scoresheet as they beat Leece 4-0 on Saturday – taking his league tally to five goals in seven outings.
Napoli will host Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday.
