Davies disclosed that despite his involvement in football for some time, he was never considered by Ghana because he wasn’t a well-known player. It was only after his high-profile transfer to Bayern Munich that Ghana made an attempt to approach him.

He shared, as per JoyNews, “Ghana never reached out, and also my mum was like, no [to the idea of me playing for Ghana]. I was playing, not even in the academy, they never said [anything about wanting me]. I wasn’t a big name. When the news came out that I was going to Bayern, then I got a message from the Ghana federation.”

Davies further explained that the contact from the Ghana FA came via an Instagram message since they did not have his phone number or email. However, by that time, he had already acquired Canadian citizenship and committed to representing Canada, making it too late to reconsider his decision.

The talented left-back made his debut for the Canadian national team in June 2017, becoming the youngest player to feature for the senior team at that time. Since then, the 22-year-old has gone on to make 39 appearances for Canada, scoring 13 goals.

As his career continues to progress, Davies remains committed to representing Canada, showcasing his skills on the international stage while reflecting on the missed opportunity to play for the country of his birth, Ghana.
