Chelsea and German defender Antonio Rudiger celebrated his 28th birthday yesterday and took out time to surprise staff at the club and health workers at Westminster Hospital and said thank you for all their work in the last year in combating the coronavirus.

“I just wanted to say a big, big thank you,” Rudiger said in a video message. “We all cannot thank you enough for what you’re doing in these difficult circumstances.

“That’s why on my birthday, I just wanted to share little birthday cakes and soft drinks with you as a little appreciation of the work you are doing and will do.

“I hope things will get better, and I wish you and your families all the best. Stay strong, keep doing what you’re doing because you’re doing great work, and you are the heroes.

“Thank you for everything and take care.”

It’s not the first time Rudiger would express love to health care workers, he sent pizzas to nurses in Berlin hospital where he was born during Christmas. He also in collaboration with Callum Hudson-Odoi sent masks to Africa.
