Spanish referee Ricardo de Burgos admitted to blowing the final whistle too early and called back Sevilla and Granada out for 60 more seconds. Four added minutes were supposed to be played but he blew the final whistle in the 93rd minute.

Sevilla who won the game 2-1 through Ivan Rakitic’s penalty and Lucas Ocampos goal held on to their lead in the 60 seconds over Granada who had earlier gotten consolation through Roberto Soldado.

Lucas Ocampos after the game said: “I’ve never seen that before. We’d basically taken our kit off.”

A similar incident occurred in the game between Manchester United and Brighton in the Premier League, the referee called back the game after full time whistle to award a penalty to Manchester United, the VAR check of which was going on before the whistle. Bruno Fernandes scored the penalty to give United a 3-2 win.
