Afcon 2021: Boupendza’s strike sees Gabon past debutants Comoros

Gabon began their Africa Cup of Nations with a 1-0 win over tournament debutants Comoros at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo on Monday night.

Aaron Boupendza broke the deadlock in the 15th minute following a fine link-up with Louis Ameka in the penalty area before rifling a shot past Comoros’ goalie from close range.

The Panthers, who were without their captain Pierre Emerick Aubameyang due to Covid-19, are joint top of Group C and will face Ghana next.
