PL clubs want Man City kicked out if found guilty

There is a feeling that taking away City's titles retrospectively would be meaningless and cause confusion, but a fine is also not likely to have much of an effect

Many Premier League clubs want Manchester City to be kicked out of the league if they are found to have broken financial rules over the course of nine seasons.

City said on Monday that they were “surprised” to have been accused of 101 alleged financial rule violations by the Premier League, which span the years 2009–10 to 2017–18.

The English Football League has reportedly been informed that the Premier League’s most severe sanction in these circumstances would be the expulsion of City, and they would not be required to do so.

Removing City’s titles retroactively is perceived as pointless and confusing, but a fine is also unlikely to make much of an impact.

Up until Monday, some other clubs from the so-called “big six,” which also includes Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham, had been pressing hardest for action the most.

If City, who has won the Premier League six times in the last 11 years, is found guilty, there won’t be a lot of sympathy.

Clubs from the Premier League do not wish to participate in the procedure, which is being handled by an impartial panel.
