Paul Pogba is very misunderstood – Scott McTominay

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay believes teammate Paul Pogba has been unfairly criticised at the club by fans and the media.

The French international has not replicated the form that made the club splash out a club-record £89 million transfer fee to re-sign him from Juventus in 2016.

He has been inconsistent and lacked fitness for most of his time at the club. His off-field antics and interviews have not helped either, but McTominay said he’s only being targeted because of his superstar status.

“I remember watching Pogba at Juventus when I was in the reserves at United,” McTominay told Pro Direct Soccer.

“I was like: ‘This guy is ridiculous’.

“People don’t know him. People don’t. They don’t know him for who he is. He is very misunderstood, in my opinion, for the way he is, his personality and what he brings to the team.

“Obviously he can have a bad game, everyone can have a bad game but because it’s Paul Pogba it’s magnified to a different level.

“When he plays well, he’s up there with the very best. Top class.”
